However, given the issues listed above, it looks like wicd is currently our best alternative. You don’t need to specify any options, since it only needs to be marked “up” for the scanning to work.

This is the only way out of this. The module rtsta is loaded but the mac module can’t use it, so the wireless isn’t running at all. Manually blacklisting one module and using the other one didn’t work either.
